Salford Friendly Anglers
A quick heads up for anyone whos interested in fishing any of the Manchester rivers such as the Irwell, Medlock, Irk and Croal. The next meeting of the Salford Friendly Anglers Society is being held next Tuesday the 19th April at 7.30pm at the Kings Arms, Bloom St, Salford, M3 6AN.
If you’ve never heard of the Salford Friendly then take a look at www.salfordfriendlyanglers.co.uk it has a rather interesting history and is in the process of setting up some exciting new environmental projects in the Greater Manchester area.

The water in the picture is a very distinctive shade of grey, a shade I have seen before. The Goyt, Tame and Mersey are all subject to CSOs carrying all the sewage in periods of very high flows. These do not seem to be linked to grey water. But there is another situation which occurs on the Tame. After a considerably period of dry weather, the first significant spell of rain results in a large run off of water from the motorways. This run off is of exactly the same grey colour, and has with it what can only be described as a very distinctive and unpleasant smell. Not exactly petrol, but related. The fish seem to sicken enough to stop them feeding. Is it possible that the grey colour you are seeing might be of similar origin? Sewage outflows do not normally smell of petrol.
