Angling, fishing, you can call it what you like but as we all know – its not called catching. We all get something different from our sport – its a fantastic way to be involved in some collective individualism.
I had a great time out fishng today – I didn’t catch anything but took more pleasure than I would have recieved by catching something myself by watching others catch – and enjoy themselves fishing.
Have a look at Toms Blog and Nicks Blog and the Salford Friendly Blog for the full write up of todays trip out.
Flecks of gold dust – just like the eye make up on this pike which has survived a recent catastrophic pollution incident.
Mike I am properly offended you didn't mention my blog! 🙁
Paul – you hadnt written anything by the time I posted. As evidenced by the photo you lifted off mine. Row with a mirror comes to mind.
Put yer toys back in the pram.
Smile sweetly and I'll add you to the blogroll 😉 mwah

Hello Mike, old sausage,
On a somewhat lighter note.
I used to fish 'the-old-river' back in the late 70's and early 80's. Summer-time, 50 or more jack pike would bask near the surface, at the pub end.
I also caught the odd crucian or three and numerous perch and eels.
Just thought you might like to know.
Regards
Alan
Hi Alan,
It USED to be a great water, sadly that pollution incident turned things on its head.
Word on the street had it that ALL fish died, which we have proved to be untrue.
Some roach of breeding age must have survived as there is a decent head of 1oz fish. Skimmers and bream dont seem to have made it through but the odd carp and tench must have because we saw them rolling early morning.
Perch and Pike and eels are still there in good numbers – maybe in too good numbers for the silver fish to re-establish themselves without some sort of intervention.
Its not something thats going to be sorted out in a season or two – but hopefully things should re-balance over the longer term and the old river will become the fishery it used to be.
Were going to hold a pike fish-in in Central Manchester at the end of Feb – hopefully you will be able to come and join us.
Got a particular date in mind, for the pikin?
Probably Sunday the 26th Feb. I'm going to try to get the Kings Arms to make us all something hot to eat afterwards.
General theme of the day is – just turn up, any time and pike fish either on the river or canals in central Manchester. Then head back to the kings arms about 4ish and lie about the fish you caught (or didnt catch).
Will be sending out a general email to SFAS members next week.
