Hi everyone.
The Salford Friendly Anglers Society is a pain in the …. to update. So until Salford Univeristy come up with our new website – I’m going to blog them.

(I spoke to the EA yesterday about the Irk, and surprisingly no one seemed to know anything about the latest Irk pollution incident – very very sad).

FFS, Mike, how can the EA not know? Time to get the Angling Trust / Fish Legal involved? By the sound of that Oldham news piece, a good little river has been completely wrecked…
Unfortunately a very high % of this river comes directly from water treatement works.
These are old style, and havent yet been upgraded with regards to ammonia phosphate and nitrate removal.
Apparently these two treatment works are in line to be upgraded but not right now:(
We cant get the AT or fish legal to do anything about it – because theyre not yet Society waters.
(something we are working on)
On a brighter note – all of the Irwell system has been named as one of DEFRAs pilot projects regarding the implementation of the WFD.
So our local utility company are going to have to pull their fingers out regarding these issues.
If we had the rights on the river – then we would be suing.
