I had 3 tench in 3 hours this evening from the local canal.
5lb8oz, 4lb2oz and 4lb and I lost another cracker by trying to bully it to the net (idiot).
All fish fell to a strawberry jellet fished dead depth over micro pellets.
I’ve experimented a fair amount recently with hook patterns and baits and I’m nearly happy.
I’m going again one afternoon this week, as I’m sure now that breadflake over micros will be a more productive combination.
I’ll take a camera next time.

Hi Mike, I last contacted you, re that cracking Trout which you caught on the River Irk!
I constantly follow your Blogs – excellent too!
Just a small point – on looking at your Header Photo of the Irwell – it does seem to me, to be flowing the wrong way??!!!

Just having a nosy at the 2011 fish list. I confess that I had to look up motherless minnows. Another invasive species in the Uk I guess?
May I ask whether you caught your stone loach in a tiddler net? Surely not on a hook?
Plenty of them in the Goyt, Tame and upper Mersey if you go gravel grovelling.
Mike Duddy says
The stoneloach came from the Irwell.
You can find them all the way down to lower broughton now.
